Anatomy of Fighter – The Rise of a Volkan Oezdemir (Short Film)

Volkan Oezdemir Is On The Rise

One question, who is Volkan Oezdemir? The Swiss Turk fighter has exploded onto the UFC light heavyweight scene, seemingly out of nowhere. His first fight for the promotion saw him facing Ovince St Preux. A top 10 fighter who the previous year had just taken on the p4p great Jon Jones. And in the same year Jimi Manuwa, the guy who was supposed to be next in line for a shot at the champion Daniel Cormier.

Oezdemir arrived spontaneously and as his nickname would dictate, with “No time” to spare! Just as the division was beginning to look a mess. With Anthony “Rumble” Johnson walking away after a second failed attempt at achieving UFC gold.

As well as the entire sport entering what seemed like the Twilight zone. When the newly crowned, old King, Jon Jones returned to glory. Only for him to once again fail both himself and his position at the top.

Like a Volkan of Fresh Air

Volkan Oezdemir arrived like a charging rhino and carved his way through the division. And now it seems, straight into title contention. And all within a 6-month window!!!

With the division champion Daniel Cormier taking to social media to ask fans, who is next in line for a shot? It looks as though Oezedemir is the guy the majority of fans want to see. It’s an opportunity few fighters will ever get, after only their first year fighting for the promotion.

Will it all come to fruition, well we will just have to wait and see? But the way these dominoes have been toppling for the 28-year-old from Fribourg Switzerland. Who would bet against him?

Anatomy of a  Fighter had the opportunity to spend a morning with the #2 UFC LHW Swiss/Turkish fighter in South Florida. And had the chance to hear a little of his story, his thoughts on Jon Jones, Alex Gustafsson, Daniel Cormier. And find out what makes the quiet Volkan such a beast in the Octagon. The options are limitless for this guy and honestly, he has a storybook rise in the UFC.
