Tony El Cucuy Ferguson || Breakdown • Skill Study • Highlights

Tony Ferguson Hip Blades, Darce Chokes, and Elbows…oh my!

In my last breakdown of Tony Ferguson, I covered what I call his “bladed square dancing” as a reference to his use of varietal stances and rhythmic trances to often confuse opponents, making his (to the purist) awkward striking technique effective. I will touch on that (link in description) briefly here and fast forward to his most recent few fights, and finishing ways.

Tony Ferguson is a mixed martial artist who is currently with UFC. Ferguson was the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 13. He competes in the lightweight division and is currently the UFC lightweight (interim?) champion. His next bout is expected to be against number one contender Khabib Nurmagomedov.

‘El Cucuy’, who’s nickname references a Latin American monster of folklore, similar to El Chupacabra or Bigfoot in being elusive and terrifying, seems applicable. His striking is certainly different than the traditionalist, and his Brown Belt under Eddie Bravo in the 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu system often shows off his unorthodoxy as well.

He is dangerous as a striker and grappler amidst a 9 fight win streak, capping most recently with impressive wins over former champion Rafael Dos Anjos, and rising star Kevin Lee.

Okay folks, let’s do this…..
