In a popularity vote, I chose at random, Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson wins my next breakdown. Cowboy got some votes, as well as a few for some Jiu-Jitsu / Grappling votes, both of which I intend to cover soon.
Tony Ferguson is a mixed martial artist who is currently with UFC. Ferguson was the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 13. He competes in the lightweight division and is currently #2 in official UFC lightweight rankings. His next bout is expected to be against number one contender Khabib Nurmagomedov.
‘El Cucuy’, who’s nickname references a Latin American monster of folklore, similar to El Chupacabra or Bigfoot in being elusive and terrifying, seems applicable. His striking is certainly different than the traditionalist, and his Brown Belt under Eddie Bravo in the 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu system often shows off his unorthodoxy as well. He is dangerous as a striker and grappler amidst a 9 fight win streak, capping most recently with an impressive win over former champion Rafael Dos Anjos.
In any world of sanity, the winner of Ferguson vs. Khabib gets a shot at Conor McGregor for the 155 lb title. Okay folks, let’s do this.
