Super Sodiq Yusuff || Breakdown • Film Study • Highlights
Sodiq “Super” Yusuff is a 26 year old, Nigerian born UFC featherweight prospect with (in my opinion) a very high ceiling. Now fighting out of Team Lloyd Irvin in Maryland, Yusuff appears to be another African born (specifically Nigeria if Usman, Stylebender, and others; Ngannou) fighter making a rapid ascent toward the top of the crop in the UFC. If 2016-18 marked the rise of the ‘Eastern Bloc’ type fighters, perhaps 2019 and 2020 will be the rise of African Mixed Martial Artist.
With power for days and a coach who has molded elite Jiu Jitsu players like Keenan Cornelius, Sodiq has only one loss in his entire career. Now on a 5 fight win streak with some impressive knockouts, he most recently fought the dangerous & talented Gabriel Benitez.
I want to focus on his ascent to that point and how that fight is an excellent study in open stance strategy variance vs. closed stance, specifically strike selection. Without further ado….
