Anthony Pettis vs. Edson Barboza – Preview / Breakdown * UFC 197 *
In Las Vegas, Nevada. Former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis will face Brazilian striker Edson Barboza at UFC 197 on April 23rd. UFC Tonight confirmed the news on Wednesday.
In a match I thought not so long ago we may all see for the 155 lb. title, it is now a fight that has a make or break feel to it for both fighters. Neither of the two lacks the talent or skill to be champion (in the case of Pettis, again), but both have been on the L bracket recently, and need a dominant win to get back into the spotlight.
Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis is the former WEC and UFC Lightweight Champion. He is ranked as the #3 lightweight in official UFC rankings. He is 5’10” w/ a 72″ Reach.
Edson Barboza Jr. is currently #8 in official UFC lightweight rankings. He is 5’11” w/ a 75″ reach.
Both have traditional martial arts backgrounds in Taekwondo and Muay Thai, and Pettis is a Brown Belt, while Edson a Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, respectively.
