Yoel Romero – Skill Breakdown / Film Study / Highlights *NEW* 2017

Yoel Romero ‘The Soldier of (Genetic) Fortune

In these modern days of USADA testing, we have seen an undeniable change in many fighters appearance, abilities, speed and an exponential increase in weight cutting issues. Romero is a fascinating case study in one of the few people that have retained a “superhero” physique and athleticism during this new era (I am well aware of the “near misses”).

He is a freakishly athletic specimen with incredibly explosive striking as well as incredibly technical, Olympic level freestyle wrestling. These traits seem to contrast his very relaxed fighting style, but by hook or by crook….We will not focus on some of the shadiness that has surrounded his tenure in the UFC, only his abilities.

Yoel Romero is a Cuban mixed martial artist (UFC) and former World Champion and Olympic silver medalist in freestyle wrestling. He fights as a MW in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, ranked #1, and formerly competed in Strikeforce. Romero is the #1 contender in the UFC Middleweight division as well as #15 in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings.
