Sean O’Malley Breakdown • Skill Study • Highlights (feat. Tommy Hearns) by Brendan Dorman

Suga Sean O’Malley, who has a nickname that stems back to some of the flashiest (and best p4p) pugilists of the last century, from arguably the greatest in Sugar Ray Robinson, to Sugar Ray Leonard and Sugar Shane Mosley. He is incredibly creative, and wise (ring IQ etc) beyond his 23 years. My issue isn’t with the oft-overused nickname, it’s that one Thomas THE HITMAN Hearns is far closer in physical attributes, as I intend to demonstrate here.

Though they aren’t exact matches in build and probably more importantly sport, the tall and slender explosive finishers have similarly incognito ways to put their opponents lights out with single strikes, using their incredible height and reach advantages. Most tall, long-limbed, and thin-framed fighters do not fit into the category of explosive, which is the crux of the comparison.

Hearns = 6’1″, 147-160 lbs.(career), 78″ Reach
O’Malley = 5’11”, 135 lb, 72″ Reach
