Rafael Dos Anjos Already Getting Back on Track

When it was announced that UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos would not be fighting at UFC 196, the MMA world made a collective sigh. Not another one. The reason? Dos Anjos had managed to break his foot during a sparring session just a few weeks out from facing Conor McGregor.

After all the build-up and the rhetoric exchanged between the two fighters. Fans and fighters alike all had their own opinion on who would emerge victorious from the championship bout. But that was then.

With McGregor currently hanging around in the 170lb division, their fight is not looking likely anytime soon. So where, what, who next for RDA? The only blemish on his record since 2012 coming in the form of a three-round decision loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov. Who was originally scheduled to fight Tony Ferguson at UFC on Fox 19.

There were some rumblings of a potential rematch at UFC 200. That was until newcomer Darrell Horcher was handed the task. Might we see a potential rematch between the two in the not too distant future, it’s highly probable. With things being very much uncertain right now, no one is sure what decision will be taken until the UFC itself makes an official announcement.

Meanwhile, on Inside MMA with Mauro & Bas, RDA himself hinted at a potential title defence against Eddie Alvarez saying;

“Maybe they have different plans for me. I need to defend my title against Eddie Alvarez. I think he is maybe the number one contender”

For now, at least it’s just training and getting back to 100% for the 155lb king. Let the chips fall where they may.
