Nick Diaz vs. Paul Daley StrikeForce Barnburner
April 9th, 2011 and two of the very best welterweights in the World. Stockton Califonia’s Nick Diaz taking on the hard hitting UK’s Paul Daley at StrikeForce. This was to be the first bout held after Zuffa had purchased the company one month earlier. In one of the sports classic bouts, both men went back and forth in a rock em sock em barnburner. Which at one time or another had both fighters reeling. Daley managed to drop Diaz with a looping shot and almost finished the fight with some vicious ground and pound.
But Diaz being the crafty veteran and able to work off his back repelled the onslaught. Managing to climb to his feet and hit back at a now fading Daley. It wasn’t much longer before the constant barrage of blows took its toll on the Brit. And with one final combination on the feet, Daley dropped to the canvas before eating several more shots. With referee John Mccarthy stepping in to ensure he didn’t take any more damage. A classic that years later Daley would go on to say, was a fight for which he never trained correctly. Spending many of his weekends out partying, before being back in the gym come Monday morning!
