Chris Weidman Discusses Breaking his Losing Streak, Bisping Responds

Chris Weidman Joined UFC on Fox to Discuss Breaking his Losing Streak

Remember the time when Long Island’s Chris Weidman was riding that unbelievable wave of success. Capturing the UFC Middleweight title. While at the same time stopping the greatest p4p fighter on the planet, twice! Everything looked perfect as he defended his title successfully three times. First, against the man he took it from Anderson Silva, then against another former champion Lyoto Machida. Before his third straight win against another Brazilian in Vitor Belfort.

But then things started to go a little bit pear shaped. When at UFC 194 Weidman lost the belt to the number one contender Luke Rockhold. It was to be the beginning of a run inside the octagon that would shake the very core of the former middleweight Champion.

A fight against Yoel Romero followed, with an accompanying devastating highlight reel knockout loss. As Romero used the former Champ as a stepping stone. What next now for Weidman to get him back to winning ways? Well a fight with Gegard Mousasi at UFC 210 and another TKO loss, all be it controversial. One of the most highly touted fighters in modern times was now staring down the barrel of three straight losses in the UFC.

UFC Fight Night Long Island

His fight at UFC Fight Night Long Island would either be his redemption song or his swan song, inside the octagon. And against a fighter who has been on a tear in Kelvn Gastelum. The former welterweight who not so long ago moved up and has looked phenomenal ever since. Was this the UFC’s way of helping Weidman pack his bags as he exited the promotion? In his hometown, in front of his friends and family?

Well, it wasn’t to be. And what a sigh of relief must have been heard across the Strong Island MMA landscape. He’s still there, still in the mix. And now once again looking to rebuild his legacy. He joined UFC on Fox following his win to discuss the fight, future plans. And to hear from the current Champion Michael Bisping.
